Swedish Gateway USA is an establishment mentor program for companies and start-ups in Sweden.
Sweden is home to many companies and start-ups with competitive, cutting edge products within knowledge intensive industries such as biotech, sustainability, software, and state of the art creativity. Many of these companies operate in niches and are in urgent need of expanding to larger markets. The American market is the world’s largest and as such interesting both in terms of size and dynamics.
SACC New York has a unique network as well as knowledge of and experience from the American market after 107 years in operation. Swedish Gateway USA combines the strength of the Chamber’s network with the many entrepreneurs and Swedish businesses that are looking to establish in the United States. By joining the program you will not only take part in a unique establishment initiative, but also get exclusive access to the SACC New York network and the many events organized by the Chamber.
About the Program Swedish Gateway USA is an exclusive one year mentor program designed to prepare companies to operate effectively on the American market and facilitate a successful business launch. Through this initiative, SACC New York provides Swedish companies with a case-based, interactive support program in order to successfully navigate entry to the U.S. market.
The Program offers a unique set of highly experienced mentors, hand-picked from the Chamber’s vast network. They are all well-connected in the American business community and each participating company will be matched with a mentor relevant to their business and industry. Swedish Gateway USA is divided into two phases.
Phase one, in Sweden, uses practical case studies and interactive workshops spanning the entire range of issues relevant for an entry to the American market. The workshops cover challenges related to business model considerations, go-to market strategies, recruitment issues, strategic partnerships and financing, resulting in a company-specific roadmap. Phase two, in the U.S., consists of interaction and dialogue between the mentor and the participating company in order to execute and implement their roadmap.

Founder of Calou, Carina Ek Werderitsch was in Italy working with a jewelry collection back in 2005 when she started looking at her comfortable wooden clogs in a new light. Clogs, with their characteristic shape and the tradition of Swedish craftsmanship suddenly seemed exotic and full of possibilities to Carina. She started thinking about ways of decorating them, using new materials and techniques, embossing the leather, and producing different styles and colors.
Carina was very timely – clogs were about to have a major revival. Today Calou has developed into an international shoe company. While their roots are still firmly in the Swedish clog tradition and genuine craftsmanship, they have gone on to include clog boots, and even high heeled clogs in the collections. All are made in cushioned, flexible materials which make their shoes incredibly comfortable to wear.
