SACC Deloitte Green Award
The SACC Deloitte Award was instituted to recognize an innovative and groundbreaking small Swedish business focused on viable energy alternatives and energy conservation.
The $75,000 Award is intended to support the winner's entry into the U.S. market.
Initially, 53 companies were nominated for the 2008 Award, all of them worthy contenders. A jury comprising five senior businessmen from both sides of the Atlantic, including "green diplomacy" U.S. Ambassador Michael Wood, pared the nominees down to a shortlist of ten. These nominees were asked for more information and were further examined. After much deliberation, four finalists were selected and invited to make personal presentations to the jury for a final chance to win. The finalists were Ageratec, Chemrec, Opcon, and Swedish Biofuels. In short, Ageratec turns frying oil into biodiesel, Chemrec helps pulp and paper mills produce automotive biofuels, Opcon's Powerbox turns low-temperature waste heat into electricity, and BioJet from Swedish Biofuels is a 100% biological jet fuel. All four companies have had truly groundbreaking achievements.
The winner, Swedish Biofuels, received the Award from H.M. King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden at The Royal Green Award Dinner, hosted by SACC New York on September 24, 2008.
As part of the Award, Swedish Biofuels is able to utilize the full expertise and know-how of SACC New York and its network in the establishment process in the U.S. market. This includes analyzing market potential, helping in legal and regulatory issues, and attracting venture capital. The ongoing efforts with Swedish Biofuels U.S. entry are at full speed and will continue throughout 2009.
