<title><![CDATA[SKF buys U.S. Company for 125 million dollars]]></title>
<description><![CDATA[
SKF has signed an agreement to acquire New York-based company General Bearing Corporation (GBC) for about $125 million, based on a cash/loanfreee basis, according to a press release.
GBC is a bearing manufacturer specializing mainly in OEM and aftermarket customers, focusing on the transport market: trucks, trailers, cars and industrial applications.
&rdquo;I am very pleased that SKF has acquired GBC with the brands The General and Hyatt. The acquisition of GBC is fully in line with our strategy to develop SKF's product offering through complementary brands, to better meet the needs of these important segments, writes CEO Tom Johnstone.
GBC 2011 had an expected turnover of around $155 million with an operating margin in line with the SKF Group.

The scholarships are meant to cover the tuition fee for Master programmes and courses taught in English.

<description><![CDATA[On Tuesday&nbsp;December 6, guests of SACC New York gathered at The Metropolitan Club on the Upper East Side in New York for the annual Swedish Christmas Luncheon, in the presence of H.R.H. Princess Madeleine of Sweden. Some 320 guests filled the West Lounge for traditional Swedish Christmas food, provided by Scandinavian restaurant Aquavit. The program of events included a grand Christmas raffle, St Lucia procession with Susanna Stern as lead soprano, entertainment from Niclas Dellham, Anna-Lena Bj&ouml;rklund and M&aring;ns Ek (piano) and much singing at the tables.
At the luncheon, Cathinka Wahlstr&ouml;m, Accenture, received &ldquo;The Member of the Year Award 2011&rdquo; from Renee Lundholm and Henry Gooss from the SACC New York. The luncheon was followed by an Open House at the Chamber.

Swedish Biofuels AB joins with Virgin Atlantic and LanzaTech for a breakthrough in aviation fuel technology that will see waste gases from industrial steel production being captured for fermentation and re-used as aviation fuel. Waste gases from the industrial process are normally released directly into the atmosphere as carbon dioxide. This new production method means the carbon is captured and recycled, so reducing the overall carbon footprint. Swedish Biofuels technology will enable the low carbon ethanol, produced by LanzaTech, to be converted to aviation fuel. Initial detailed analysis suggests the fuel could produce a 45 - 50 % saving in lifecycle carbon emissions. <description><![CDATA[The 2011 study on country reputations from The Reputation Institute ranks Sweden in second place. Loosing the first place from last year to Canada. Canada has earned the highest reputation ranking in Reputation Institute&rsquo;s 2011 Country RepTrak, an annual study measuring the public perceptions of 50 countries around the world. Sweden came in second place, followed by Australia, Switzerland and New Zealand.
The study measures the overall Trust, Esteem, Admiration and Good Feelings the public holds towards these countries, as well as their perceptions across 16 different attributes, including a good quality of life, a safe place to live and a strong attention to their environment.]]></description>

<title><![CDATA[Sweden and the U.S. in joint climate venture ]]></title>
<description><![CDATA[Sweden and the US have joined another four countries in a bid to reduce emissions of soot, ozone and methane gas in the environment to slow down global warming.&ldquo;This cooperation has been carried out friction free and efficiently. We managed to put together the initiative in four months and everyone is determined that it will give results&rdquo;, said Swedish minister for the environment, Lena Ek, to Sveriges Radio.
The venture was launched in Washington on Thursday, with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and environment minister Lena Ek attending. These short-lived substances are detrimental to the environment but don&rsquo;t remain in the atmosphere as long as carbon dioxide emissions. <title><![CDATA[Fashion giant H&M to open 180 new stores ]]></title>
<description><![CDATA[Swedish cheap\'n\'chic fashion group Hennes &amp; Mauritz, Europe&rsquo;s second- largest clothing retailer, posted second quarter earnings almost in line with expectations while sale in May was weaker than expected.
The company said second quarter net&nbsp;profit jumped 25 percent, to 5.2 billion kronor ($670 million), boosted by increased gross margin and a weak dollar. Total sales rose 2 percent to 27 billion kronor.&nbsp;
The fashion giant now plans to expand its concept to new countries and new cities. During the second half-year H&amp;M plans to open 180 stores and close 14. Most of the stores are planned for Germany, USA, the UK, France, China and Italy.

<title><![CDATA[IKEA to increase solar presence to 85 % of its US locations]]></title>
<description><![CDATA[IKEA has announced plans to install solar panels on a further five stores in the U.S., reinforcing the company&rsquo;s long-term commitment to running a sustainable organization. The five stores are located in the Midwest and installation of the panels could, pending government permits, start as early as this winter and be finished in the summer 2012. IKEA already operates 12 stores powered by solar energy systems in the United States, and have 20 more locations underway. Adding the five Midwestern stores will increase IKEA&rsquo;s solar energy presence to 85 % of its stores in the U.S. and will result in a total generating capacity of 31.6 MW.
