  • Eva Skoghagen Haakan B. Anderson Guldkula Foundation Scholar 2013

Eva Skoghagen is the fifth recipient of the Haakan B. Guldkula Scholarship and will be working with Events & Communications at the Chamber. Eva holds a B.Sc. in Business and Economics from the Stockholm School of Economics and has spent one semester studying at the Mexico Autonomous Institute of Technology in Mexico City. "I am honored and truly grateful to be standing here today and receive the Haakan B. Anderson Guldkula Scholarship of 2013. I like to thank the Swedish-American Chamber of Commerce here in New York and especially it’s President Renée Lundholm, for giving me this great opportunity. I also deeply thank Mr. Anderson Guldkula for believing in me and for his great generosity. Your achievements in life have truly inspired me and knowing that your career started as a scholar at the Chamber back in 1985, I am excited what this Scholarship might bring for me on my own journey in life. I look forward to contribute to the work at the Chamber and hope to meet all of your expectations. Thank you!"

  • Thomas Nordén Bertil Edlund Scholar 2012

Thomas Nordén is the 7th recipient of the Bertil Edlund Scholarship and will work at the Business Services Division at the Swedish-American Chamber of Commerce Inc., New York throughout 2012. Bertil Edlund handed over the scholarship himself at the 24th Lucia Trade Award Dinner at The Carlyle in New York.

Thomas hails from the Stockholm School of Economics, where he is at the final stages of his Master’s degree in Finance. Prior to attending SSE, Thomas earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Uppsala University, as part of which he spent a year studying finance and management at California State University. During his university years, Thomas has complemented his studies with working in finance and sales at leading companies such as Carnegie Investment Bank, Agenta Investment Management and Svenska Dagbladet.

“Ladies and gentlemen, what a lovely night it is here in New York, but even more so what an honor it is for me to receive the Bertil Edlund Scholarship 2012 and to be entrusted to work for the Swedish-American Chamber of Commerce in New York – an organization whose strong recognition and network I will commit my best to. I would like to thank Mr. Bertil Edlund himself for believing in the next generation of business leaders and for making this truly unique opportunity possible. I hope to be in his position one day where one person’s generosity opens new doors for others. I would also like to express my gratitude towards the Chamber, whose value they create I really believe in, and, of course, the President of the Chamber Renée Lundholm, who has dedicated many years to establish the name of the Chamber. The next year will be a year filled with possibilities and I hope to take the Swedish-American relations to a new level. Thank you!”

Having also spent part of her childhood growing up in the United Arab Emirates, attending a British school, Carole can already claim deep international experience.

Her interests in social media and branding led her to focus her theses on the topic, subsequently leading to a nomination in Prime PR’s annual thesis scholarship for one of her papers, "Brands in Social Media." Since graduating Carole has worked with PR at a leading global communications firm at their Stockholm office, and will now work with communications at the Chamber.

"I am incredibly honored to be standing here today as the first ever recipient of the Uppsala University Scholarship. Uppsala has given me so much during my life, and I am very grateful to get this opportunity to be able to do something in return. I look forward to, during my time at the Chamber, bring a little bit of the Uppsala I know to New York. So, a great thank you to the University and the American Friends of Uppsala University.

To have been given this truly amazing and once-in-a-lifetime opportunity is something I will cherish for the rest of my life, and I want to thank the Chamber and especially President Renee Lundholm for giving me the chance to fulfil a dream of mine. 2012 will not, as believed in ancient cultures, be the end of the world, but the start of a new fantastic chapter of my life. I want to thank you all for believing in me, I will do my utmost to not only meet your expectations but to exceed them.

Finally, I want to congratulate Anna and Thomas on their achievements and just say that I look forward to a very eventful and exciting year filled with new experiences together!"
